What is Personal Information?

Personal Information is anything about me that I need to keep safe online.  I will talk to a trusted adult about ways I will keep my information safe. Make a promise (or pledge) with a trusted adult about how I can keep my personal information safe.
Passwords, account numbers, log ins,

No one needs to know my passwords, account numbers, log ins or usernames.  I good way to keep them safe if to pick passwords that would be hard to guess. It's a good idea to use nonsense words as password so its harder to guess. Be careful when choosing a user name.  Make sure it doesn't say too much about you.

Safe:                                                                   Not as Safe:

Username: ilovesocc3r                                    Username: joshsoccer15

Password: Gr3enEggs4breaky                        Password: soccer

This log in is good becuase it

doesn't give out my name or

any personal information.

The password is long and has

CAPITAL LETTERS and lowercase

letters and would be hard to guess

becuase of the username.

This username says josh's first name which should not be given out online. The password is short and is easy to guess becuase the username has the same word in it.

Things that I think about

Leave some thoughts and ideas offline.  Some people put so much online they forget about safety and can get into trouble.

Think hard about what you are going to say online and talk to a trusted adult about what is okay for you to post.

How we feel today might be different than how we feel tomorrow but thoughts and feelings you post on the internet are online forever.

Things about me

        ·your name

         Â·your birthday

         Â·your address

         Â·your phone number

There are lots of things special about you that should not be shared online. Talk to a trusted adult about other things about you that should never be shared online.

My location

Never tell someone online where you are or where you are going to be.

Do not use 'my location' status updates

Sometimes this can be tricky. Be careful not to do this by accident like when making plans with friends from school on someone's wall on facebook.

Photos

Talk to a trusted adult and decide if posting photos is something you should be doing online.

Photos can give away personal information by accident. A photo can have clues in it for strangers to find out where you are like a street sign in the background.  Other private things like photo ID may be in the background of a picture. Ask a trusted adult for help when posting photos.

My Internet Promise:

Make a promise or pledge with a trusted adult to be safe on the internet.  This is a good way to make sure you understand the rules and do the right things when you are on the internet! The most important part about making a promise or pledge is that you and your trusted adult both like it.  Here are some promises or pledges you can use or make one up with what you like on it!
